The greatest fear among Trainers, Owners and Veterinary Surgeons is the outbreak
of equine ‘flu. It is the most virulent disease that can hit racing
stables. The potential damage that this disaster brings is not just financial
loss, even though that can be considerable. The horses contracting the virus
are usually left tired and weakened after the period of sickness, which normally
lasts about ten days, so that the racing stables may not be able to operate
for long periods of time.
During the worst outbreak of horse ‘flu that occurred in 2004, even horses that that had been vaccinated against the virus succumbed. The Animal Health Trust said that there was a strong possibility that the strain in the virus had altered significantly thereby making the vaccine impotent.
Now the risk of the virus spreading can be reduced significantly.
EnviroCair®-E disinfects stables, loose boxes and horse boxes.
EnviroCair®-E eradicates airborne viruses and bacteria.
EnviroCair®-E is antimicrobial.
Used with our fogging machine (see right), EnviroCair®-E can dissinfect a horse box in 2 - 4 minutes without soaking any bedding. The light and portable machine is simply plugged in and switched on to create a fine mist that will completely dissinfect, without the need to pressure-wash.
Equine ‘flu is spread from horse to horse in a variety of ways. Breathing air that has been contaminated with breath exhaled from an infected animal; from contaminated surfaces in stables, loose boxes, saddling boxes or horse boxes; from equipment, rugs or tack that has been used on an infected horse. The disease is very contagious and there is almost 100% infection rate in a population that has been previously unexposed to the virus.

Nile encephalitis has also emerged as a |
Because it is a virus, there are no drugs that influence the outcome of the disease. Horses are subject to numerous infections which may cause coughing and a nasal discharge. Just as human colds and other infections may be incorrectly diagnosed as ‘flu, equine ‘flu also has it’s mimics. ‘The cough’ or ‘the virus’ are terms often heard but usually refer to causes other than equine ‘flu. For instance, many respiratory problems in the horse are due to equine herpes viruses and not ‘flu viruses.
The most desirable way of reducing the risk of your horses catching equine ‘flu is to eliminate the virus BEFORE it spreads. Vaccination alone is not enough.
EnviroCair®-E is a formulation of chemicals that is held in
solution and when it is disbursed into the atmosphere it will eradicate virtually
all known airborne viruses and bacteria. EnviroCair®-E is released
into the air from a small box with a battery-operated fan that blows air across
a wick impregnated with the solution.
It will sterilise a space of 50cu.m in three hours and give continuous protection
against any more viruses or bacteria that enter the air space whilst the equipment
is working. The unit can be placed in a loose box or inside traveling boxes
when transporting horses (the unit can be switched on and off for use in such
circumstances).
There are other products that try to attack the problem either by filtering the air in a working environment continuously, or, by sterilising the exposed surfaces in a room or vehicle using bleach or other strong detergents which can be harmful. Whilst these methods will eradicate existing bacteria or viruses that may be present at the time of application of the chemical, their efficacy disappears after the product has dried up.
The lethality of EnviroCair®-E will continue to eliminate
all bacteria and viruses that enter the atmosphere so long as the EnviroCair®-E
solution continues to be disbursed, AND its ability to eliminate bacteria
and viruses will remain effective on any exposed surfaces that have received
the treatment for a long time after the solution has dried. Thus any new bacterium
or virus that enters a room or vehicle and which lands on any exposed surface
that has been treated with EnviroCair®-E will be eliminated.
THIS IS UNIQUE
Clothes and tack that are contaminated should be washed and sterilised anyway, but such good hygienic discipline should be complemented with the use of EnviroCair®-E to help to keep the risk of contracting and spreading equine ‘flu to a minimum in any enclosed space where race horses are quartered.
Is EnviroCair®-E safe?
Each constituent component has a manufacturers maximum recommended safety
exposure limit. Testing has shown that EnviroCair®-E components
do not exceed even 1/10,000th of such limits.

Festival fears for Castle under siege
No relief in sight as jump racing's plushest stable is shut by virus
Jamie Reid

The Guardian
The Christmas and New Year period is every bit as hectic for the staff of a top racing stable as it is for actors in pantomime and leading trainers such as Martin Pipe and Paul Nicholls have been busy dispatching convoys of horse boxes up and down the motorways.
Yet at Jonjo O'Neill's Jackdaws Castle yard at Temple Guiting in Gloucestershire, the festive season has only been notable for the accursed "virus" that has grounded most of the 100 or so equine inmates. .....click here for full story
